Blade Runner has become a classic science fiction film from the 80s. One of my favourite movies. Since the new realised of Blade Runner 2049 on cinema. I decided to watch it again with surprising results.
In 1982 director Ridley Scott dare any imagination with an ambition film like Blade Runner, starring Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, Sean Young, and Edward James Olmos. With a perfect script written by Hampton Fancher and David Peoples, is a loose adaptation of the 1968 novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick.

The film begins in the city of Los Angeles 2019 when I saw this film for the first time, I could not imagine, how the millennium would be. It feels amusing to be able to watch this movie on 2017 and see how writer Philip K. Dick with his novel Do androids dream of electric sheep? (1968) dreamed and describes the future.

The film starts with a terrifying scene of Los Angeles on fire with huge factories pipes, since climate change, this panorama become quite common to this era, another futuristic observation is when Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) gives instructions to the computer, in these days we use Siri or Google search, in the 80s most movies dreamed with video conferences, today is quite normal for us the use of video call such a Skype, WhatsApp or Snapchat. On this futuristic city we find few street advertising like Pan Am airlines that has been dissolved on the 90s, now 34 years later the film still engaging an strong audience, because the movie has a lot to give, with a unique science fiction between futuristic Hong Kong lifestyle and a romantic noir film from the 40s this film mix intrigue, style, and a psychologist twist. These are the type of classic movie you must to watched, a masterpiece from the 80s that has prevailed in time.

Director Ridley Scott got inspired by Hedy Lamarr from the 40’s to create Rachel’s makeup and hairdo retro style,Screen Shot 2017-10-09 at 19.29.43 during the meeting between Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) and his boss in the Police Department evoke an epic noir retro cinema, a combination that perfectly blends with the modernist future world. The soundtrack is impressive this captivating melody, takes the viewer to a new level, helping to get deeper to the protagonist feeling, giving a subtle romanticism and emotional power, as we can see from the ending scene of Android Nexus-6. This film was retouch but the result paid off, with excellent edition and scenery inspired by Asian Hong Kong styles mix with dramatic neoclassical Los Angeles buildings. The film is a classic of the cinema industry and it’s had inspired many films.

Moral of the movie

A dual contrast between two species, humans has a vertiginous lifestyle, they take for granted the precious gift of life. For the other hand, Androids are anxious for freedom, beggars for life, unprovided from experiences is hard for them to have memories, which make very difficult for them to understand human emotions. Marginalized by being created instead of natural born, offspring, they constantly confront an indifferent society who is not aware of their pain.

In this film, we can find the effect of Emotional Intelligence how several events in our life can create particular memories, that affect our emotions. The question in this film is Can Androids feel emotions without memories? Our protagonist Roy frustrated he decided to visit his creator, calling him father, disappointed by the poor appreciation of his master who denies him the opportunity to extend his life, he felt lost and miserable, feeling the dead over his shoulders, he demonstrated so much compassion and understanding of life, in his last breath he pronounces with tears “All those moments will be lost in time like tears in the rain. It’s time to die”. Roy feels hopeless in front the dead. He feels his life will be erased like the tears in the rain, that his existence will leave no trace or legacy. A psychological film that makes the viewer think, What it would be our life without memories?

A reflection that highlights how we can aim our destiny, what tools we need to build our fate, and become the best version of us.

Plot of the movie

In 2019 Los Angeles, ex-police officer Rick Deckard is detained by officer Gaff and brought to his former supervisor, Bryant. Deckard, whose job as a “blade runner” was to track down bioengineered beings known as replicants and “retire” (i.e. kill) them, is informed that four are on Earth illegally. Deckard starts to leave, but Bryant ambiguously threatens him and he stays.

Deckard watches a video of a blade runner named Holden administering the “Voight-Kampff” test designed to distinguish replicants from humans based on their emotional response to questions. The test subject, Leon, shoots Holden after Holden asks about Leon’s mother. Bryant wants Deckard to retire Leon and the other three Tyrell Corporation Nexus-6 replicants: Roy Batty, Zhora, and Pris.

Byant has Deckard meet with Eldon Tyrell so he can administer the test on a Nexus-6 to see if it works. Tyrell expresses his interest in seeing the test fail first and asks him to administer it on his assistant Rachael. After a much longer than normal test, Deckard concludes Rachael is a replicant who believes she is human. Tyrell explains she is an experiment who has been given false memories to provide an emotional “cushion”.

Searching Leon’s hotel room, Deckard finds photos and a synthetic snake scale. Roy and Leon investigate a replicant eye-manufacturing laboratory and learn of J. F. Sebastian, a gifted genetic designer who works closely with Tyrell. Deckard returns to his apartment where Rachael is waiting. She tries to prove her humanity by showing him a family photo, but after Deckard reveals that her memories are implants from Tyrell’s niece, she leaves his apartment in tears. Meanwhile, Pris locates Sebastian and manipulates him to gain his trust.

The photograph and snake scale lead Deckard to a strip club where Zhora works. Deckard kills Zhora. Bryant orders him to also retire Rachael, who has disappeared from the Tyrell Corporation. After Deckard spots Rachael in a crowd, he is attacked by Leon; he drops his pistol but Rachael uses it to kill Leon. They return to Deckard’s apartment, and, during an intimate discussion, he promises not to track her down; as she abruptly tries to leave, Deckard restrains her, forcing her to kiss him.

Arriving at Sebastian’s apartment, Roy tells Pris the others are dead. Sympathetic to their plight, Sebastian reveals that because of “Methuselah Syndrome”, a genetic premature ageing disorder, his life will also be cut short. Sebastian and Roy gain entrance into Tyrell’s secure penthouse, where Roy demands more life from his maker. Tyrell tells him that it is impossible. Roy confesses that he has done “questionable things”, but Tyrell dismisses this, praising Roy’s advanced design and accomplishments in his short life. Roy kisses Tyrell, then kills him. Sebastian runs for the elevator, followed by Roy, who rides the elevator down alone.

At Sebastian’s apartment, Deckard is ambushed by Pris, but he kills her as Roy returns. Roy’s body begins to fail as the end of his lifespan approaches. He chases Deckard through the building, ending on the roof. Deckard tries to jump to an adjacent roof but is left hanging between buildings. Roy makes the jump with ease, and as Deckard’s grip loosens, Roy hoists him onto the roof, saving him. Before Roy dies, he delivers a monologue about how his memories “will be lost in time, like tears in rain”. Gaff arrives and shouts to Deckard about Rachael:

As they leave, Deckard notices a tin-foil origami unicorn on the floor, a calling card that recalls for him Gaff’s final words. Deckard and Rachael leave the apartment block.

Soundtrack Vangelis

The Blade Runner soundtrack by Vangelis is a dark melodic combination of classical composition and futuristic synthesizers which mirrors the film-noir retro-future envisioned by Ridley Scott. Vangelis, fresh from his Academy Award-winning score for Chariots of Fire, composed and performed the music on his synthesizers. He also made use of various chimes and the vocals of collaborator Demis Roussos. Another memorable sound is the haunting tenor sax solo “Love Theme” by British saxophonist Dick Morrissey, who performed on many of Vangelis’s albums. Ridley Scott also used “Memories of Green” from the Vangelis album See You Later, an orchestral version of which Scott would later use in his film Someone To Watch Over Me.

Along with Vangelis’ compositions and ambient textures, the film’s soundscape also features a track by the Japanese ensemble Nipponia – “Ogi no Mato” or “The Folding Fan as a Target” from the Nonesuch Records release Traditional Vocal and Instrumental Music – and a track by harpist Gail Laughton from “Harps of the Ancient Temples” on Laurel Records. The Score was well received by fans and critically acclaimed also nominated in 1983 for a BAFTA and Golden Globe for the best original score.

Comentario de la Película

Screen Shot 2017-10-08 at 18.17.11.pngBlade Runner esta basada en el año del 2019, cuando vi la película por primera vez no podía imaginarme como seria la era del millennium , el escritor Philip K. Dick con su novela ¿Sueñan los androides con ovejas eléctricas? (1968) describe un futuro modernísimo, con automóviles voladores y una tecnología muy avanzada. En la actualidad en el 2017 podemos ver que algunas cosas si están en nuestra era como cuando habla Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) le da instrucciones al computador al cual este ejecuta perfectamente, en nuestros tiempos tenemos a Siri o Google search, las video conferencias también son parte de nuestra tecnología actual.

Screen Shot 2017-10-08 at 18.16.31Al comenzar la película vemos una aterradora imagen de la ciudad de Los Ángeles con fabricas en llamas algo muy similar a los problemas climáticos que tenemos en la actualidad. La cinta no ha pasado de moda, sus efectos especiales son fantásticos, cautivando y adentrando al espectador en un mundo inexplorado.

El Director Ridley Scott

Screen Shot 2017-10-10 at 19.38.46.pngSe inspiro en el vestuario al estilo del cine retro de los años 40, el peinado de Rachel al igual que su maquillaje nos cuenta el director que se guió por la actriz Hedy Lamarr,Screen Shot 2017-10-09 at 19.29.43.png incluso la reunión entre Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) y su jefe en el Dep. de policía evocan un cine épico noir film retro, una combinación que se combina perfectamente con mundo modernista del futuro, la banda sonora es impresiónate,  su cautivadora melodía, lleva al espectador por un mundo sonador dando un sutil romanticismo, en los protagonistas, y le da un poder inexplicable a las últimas palabras del androide modelos Nexus-6 con una excelente edición y escenografia inspirada con estilos asiáticos como si fuera una ciudad de Hong Kong con , dramáticos edificios de Los Angeles neoclásicos. La cinta en un clásico del cine inspirando a muchas películas que seguirán sus pasos en la gran pantalla.

Moraleja de la película

Por un lado nos muestra una vertijinosa vida plena de habitantes indiferentes al derecho a la vida, por otra nos señala un grupo de androides angustiosos por aferrarse a la vida y tener mas tiempo sobre la fast de la tierra, pobres de recuerdos, escasos de vivencias, no pueden comprender las emociones humanas, marginados por ser creados y no engendrados, son los bastogos de una sociedad indiferente a su dolor, en esta pelicula se describe a la inteligencia artifical como los recuerdos, estos eventos de la vida son los que crean emociones y por ede sentimientos que el ser humano desarrolla.

Screen Shot 2017-10-08 at 18.21.40Frustrado el adroide visita a su creador llamandole padre, sin embargo él vislumbra una gran  frialdad  por parte de su creador al cual le niega la oportunidad de extender su vida. Cuando ha llegado el momento de culminar la excistencia del androide, él muestra que si es capaz de tener sentimientos, puede ser incluso compasivo, en su ultimo aliento pronuncia con lagrimas «Todos esos momentos se perderán en el tiempo como lágrimas en la lluvia. Es hora de morir».  Roy siente el pesar de no poder seguir viviendo que su vida sera borrada como la lluvia, que su existencia no dejara ni huella ni legado. Una pelicula psicologica que hace pensar al espectador, queseria de nuestra vida sin los recuerdos, Como nos enfrentariamos a la vida?

Una refleccion a no ser agenos a las paciones que ofrece la vida, a preguntarte que mas puedes dar de ti, tu tienes el libre albedrio de elegir como deseas evolucionar como ser humano y que clase vida deseas aspirar.

Sinopsis 

Esta es una sinopsis completisima de la pelicula por si deseas ver la nueva version Blade Runner 2049, aqui te pondras al dia.

En la ciudad de Los Ángeles, en noviembre de 2019, Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) es llamado de su retiro cuando un Blade Runner excesivamente confiado —Holden (Morgan Paull)— recibe un tiro mientras llevaba a cabo la prueba Voight-Kampff a Leon (Brion James), un replicante fugitivo.

Deckard, dubitativo, se encuentra con Bryant (M. Emmet Walsh), su antiguo jefe, quien le informa que la reciente fuga de replicantes Nexus-6 es la peor hasta el momento. Bryant informa a Deckard acerca de los replicantes: Roy Batty (Rutger Hauer) es un comando, Leon es soldado y obrero, Zhora (Joanna Cassidy) es una trabajadora sexual entrenada como asesina y Pris (Daryl Hannah) un ‘modelo básico de placer’. Bryant también le explica que el modelo Nexus-6 tiene una vida limitada a cuatro años como salvaguarda contra su desarrollo emocional inestable. Deckard es acompañado por Gaff (Edward James Olmos) a la Tyrell Corporation para comprobar que la prueba Voight-Kampff funciona con los modelos Nexus-6. Ahí, Deckard descubre que Rachael (Sean Young), la joven secretaria de Tyrell (Joe Turkel) es una replicante experimental, con recuerdos implantados que le permiten contar con una base emocional.

Las pistas encontradas en el apartamento de Leon llevan a Deckard al bar de Taffy Lewis (Hy Pyke), lugar en que la tatuada Zhora realiza su espectáculo con una serpiente. Zhora intenta desesperadamente huir de Deckard por las calles atestadas de gente, pero Deckard logra alcanzarla y la “retira”. Tras el tiroteo, Gaff y Bryant aparecen e informan a Deckard que también hay que “retirar” a Rachael. Convenientemente, Deckard observa a Rachael a lo lejos pero, mientras la sigue, Leon lo desarma repentinamente, y Deckard recibe una paliza. Rachael dispara a Leon, salvando la vida de Deckard y ambos se dirigen al apartamento de Rick, donde discuten las opciones que tiene Rachael. En un tranquilo instante de intimidad musical, ambos se empiezan a enamorar.

Entretanto, Roy llega al apartamento de Sebastian y se vale del encanto de Pris para convencer a Sebastian de ayudarle a reunirse con Tyrell. Ya en la habitación de Tyrell, Roy demanda que prolongue su vida y pide perdón por sus pecados. Al no ver satisfecha ninguna de sus solicitudes, Roy asesina a Tyrell y a Sebastian.

Deckard es enviado al apartamento de Sebastian después de los asesinatos. Allí, Pris le prepara una emboscada, aunque Deckard consigue dispararle tras una lucha. Roy regresa, atrapando a Deckard en el apartamento, y comienza a perseguirlo a través del edificio Bradbury hasta llegar al tejado. Deckard intenta escapar saltando a otro edificio quedando colgado de una viga. Roy cruza con facilidad y mira fijamente a Deckard —en el momento en que este se desprende de la viga, Roy lo sujeta por la muñeca, salvándole la vida.

Roy se está deteriorando muy rápidamente (sus cuatro años de vida se acaban), se sienta y relata con elocuencia los grandes momentos de su vida concluyendo: «Todos esos momentos se perderán en el tiempo como lágrimas en la lluvia. Es hora de morir». Roy muere dejando escapar una paloma que tiene en sus manos, mientras que Deckard lo mira en silencio. Gaff llega poco después, y marchándose, le grita a Deckard: «Lástima que ella no pueda vivir, pero ¿quién vive?».

Deckard regresa a su apartamento y entra con cuidado, cuando nota que la puerta está entreabierta. Allí encuentra a Rachael, viva. Mientras se van del lugar, Deckard encuentra un origami que ha dejado Gaff (señal de que se les ha permitido escapar). Finalmente, la pareja se dirige a un futuro incierto.

Música Vangelis

Screen Shot 2017-10-08 at 18.37.25 La banda sonora de Blade Runner, compuesta por el griego Vangelis, es una combinación melódica y oscura de la composición clásica y los sintetizadores futuristas que reflejan el futuro retro y de cine negro que Ridley Scott imaginó. Vangelis, recién galardonado con el Óscar por Chariots of Fire, compuso y ejecutó la música con sus sintetizadores, a la cual solo se añade el saxo tenor del músico de jazz británico, Dick Morrissey, colaborador habitual de Vangelis. El paisaje musical de 2019 fue creado dentro del modo espacial de Vangelis en la música New Age, como en otros álbumes suyos.

La banda sonora fue nominada en 1983 al premio BAFTA y el Globo de Oro como mejor banda sonora original.
