Movie Review

It comes to times that a movie truly surprises you, a film emotionally powerful, proven language not necessary has to be expressed by words…

My heart was full of emotions after seen an angel singing, her voice, sublime, has that rare beauty that perplexed us with each tune. I remained immobilized in my chair until the end of the film. A huge silence and darkness remain by the time credits appear on the screen until was broken by my applause, applause that was multiplied by a crowd maddened by joy. I was pleased to enjoy a true quality film. The Plot is simple but very effective by integrating each character little by little around the protagonist Marina, who doesn’t have an easy life and is constantly confronted to the prejudices of the society.

The editing is perfect, each shot has been studied searching for a particulate angle, the director has used the mirrors, window any object to reflexes Marina’s shape, which he is using to build a metaphor to evoke the duality of Marina. The music of Mathew H is stunning, provoking a constant tension, a suspense that keeps you intrigued and curious during the movie.

I was fortunate to watch this Film in Santiago de Chile, the same city where the story is developing, so was curious recognising the most emblematic corners of the city, a gem quality film, proving that Chilean cinema goes beyond, a truly professional international work acclaimed for the critic Rating 100% in Rotten Tomatoes leaving an emblematic and powerful message.

Moral of the film

The truth of human beauty; the film gives an analysis of who we are, as well as the life we build according to the choices we choose. These important decisions will impact our future. Being in a world surround by prejudice, we became slaves of our fears due to the intimidation of society. Nevertheless, from the pain and the ashes emerges a giant phoenix, that will shines for her talents, Marina our protagonist leaves us speechless with her most epical lyrical presentation, her singing evokes not only who she is, but how she desires to live her life. The film shows us that love is universal, that it has no forms, that values emerge from our inner self, the soul only aspires to live a happy life beyond anything of this world.

Plot

Marina and Orlando are in love and planning for the future. Marina is a young waitress and aspiring singer. Orlando is 20 years older than her, and owns a printing company. After celebrating Marina’s birthday one evening, Orlando falls seriously ill. Marina rushes him to the emergency room, but he passes away just after arriving at the hospital. Instead of being able to mourn her lover, suddenly Marina is treated with suspicion. The doctors and Orlando’s family don’t trust her. A woman detective investigates Marina to see if she was involved in his death. Orlando’s ex-wife forbids her from attending the funeral. And to make matters worse, Orlando’s son threatens to throw Marina out of the flat she shared with Orlando. Marina is a trans woman and for most of Orlando’s family, her sexual identity is an aberration, a perversion. So Marina struggles for the right to be herself. She battles the very same forces that she has spent a lifetime fighting just to become the woman she is now – a complex, strong, forthright and fantastic woman.

The Director Sebastian Leilo

Charming Chilean director has created a 3D cinema, not because of the special effects. Instead, he recreated an enormous connection between the protagonist and the viewers, feeling their emotions as well as their frustrations.

Is clear all the angles of the camera were carefully studied, showing to the audience another reality, you will be able to observe that every time Marina get around the city, she will be reflected in many objects as mirror or windows, indicating the path she has chosen has helped her to live and understand life in a different way.

At the end of the film, I had the chance to meet Director Sebastian Leilo’s Mother Valeria a fabulous woman, beautiful, elegant and proud of the talent of her son, charming and happy she dedicate a moment to me, to which I am very grateful, Daniela’s father Igor also was at the event, he looks very young and jovial, with great enthusiasm, he personally made sure, that many of those who attend to the film felt very comfortable, including me, he shares a lavish of sympathy, his tender eyes was so proud to see how far her daughter it has come to become an actress, with a promising future. I believe without a doubt that parents are our biggest fans, our greatest support and without their unconditional love would be impossible to have the strength and certainty to embark on any trial that life might give.

Comentario de la Película

Hay Películas que no te esperan como van hacer, hay cintas que no te imaginas que potente puede ser un sentimiento y hay lenguajes que no se pueden expresan con palabras… He visto cantar un ángel, su voz, sublime, colmó mi corazón de emoción, era tal el sentimiento de belleza, que perpleja a los tonos de los acordes de la cántate, me quede inmovilizada en mi butaca, al finalizar la película, la sala del cine permaneció en penumbra con la imagen de los créditos, un silencio arrebatador inundaba la sala, que fue roto por mi aplauso, aplauso que se multiplico por toda la aula por un publico enloquecido de jubilo.

En efecto, la película me gusto, hacia tiempo que no veía un film con tanta calidad, con una trama simple nos mantiene al espectador suspendido en la incógnita, de que va a pasar, me gusto como se va desarrollando la trama, en la cual los personajes se van integrando alrededor de nuestra protagonista una chica luchadora de la vida, confrontada a los prejuicios de la sociedad.

La edición es perfecta, las tomas tienen unos ángulos muy estudiados, incluso podemos ver como el director juega con una variedad de espejos, al igual que los reflejos en las ventanas, los cuales utiliza como metáfora para evocar la dualidad sexual del presente y pasado de Marina. La música de Mathew Herbert es buenísima provocando una constate tensión, un tipo de suspenso que te mantiene intrigado y curioso durante el film.

La película es bastante universal, tuve la fortuna de ver esta cinta en Santiago de Chile y poder reconcer los rincones mas emblemáticos de la ciudad, un film de calidad, demostrando que el cine Chileno va mas allá de un pasatiempo, un trabajo profesional de calidad internacional, dejando un mensaje emblemático y poderoso.

Moraleja de la película

La verdadera belleza humana; la película da un análisis de quienes somos y que vida es la que formamos acorde a las elecciones que elegimos, estas importantes deciciones son lo que marcaran nuestro futuro. En un mundo de prejuicios, somos esclavos del miedo y la intimidación de la sociedad. Sin embargo desde dolor de las cenizas emerge un fénix gigantesco que brilla por sus talentos, como lo demuestra nuestra protagonista Marina en su presentación lírica más épica, con su canto evoca no solo quien SOY, si no como deseo vivir mi vida. La película nos muestra que el amor, es universal, que no tiene formas, que el valor emerge de las entrañas de nuestro ser interior y que el alma solo quiere vivir la vida de una forma feliz, por sobretoda las cosas de este mundo.

El Director Sebastian Leilo

El guapísimo director Viña Marino (Chile) ha creado un cine en 3D no por los efectos especiales, si no por como hizo que su película traspasara la gran pantalla, haciendo que el espectador se vaya integrando con cada toma, con las emociones y frustraciones de nuestros protagonistas.

Los ángulos de la cámara fueron cuidadosamente estudiados, mostrando que existe otra realidad oculta, a través de los contantes reflejos  ya sea en los espejos, ventanas u objetos que va mostrando durante los caminos que elige Marina, nos inspira que existe otra forma de ver y vivir la vida. con esta obra el ha ganado (Teddy Award for Best Feature Film) Berlinale 2017 , Plata en el Festival de Berlin 2017 por mejor guión.

Sinopsis

Marina es una joven con una vida normal, trabaja en un restaurante y estudia canto en su tiempo libre. Vive con su novio Orlando, su pareja, mayor de edad que ella, es dueño de una imprenta. Marina y Orlando  son una pareja feliz y enamorada que planean un futuro juntos. Celebrando el cumpleaños de Marina, demostrando un derroche de amor son ajenos que esa será su ultima noche juntos, pues el desenlace que les espera marcará el futuro de Marina. La muerte de Orlando provocara una investigación policial, que causara el miedo a nuestra protagonista.

La familia de Orlando vendrá para hacerse cargo del funeral y de las pertenencias, despojando a Marina no solo del piso de su novio, si no también ultrajando la posibilidad de despedirse una vez mas de en él, en el funeral, humillada e incomprendida de su amor, la ex mujer de Orlando desprecia a lo que fuera su rival con envidia, la incomprensión la llena de cólera, pues la bondad y feminidad de Marina no se comparan a la brutalidad de Sonia y su familia que hundidos por el pesar desprecian a la que fuera la novia de Orlando y el secreto que ellos dos guardaban.

La actriz Daniela Vega.

Daniela es excelente en su rol, su interpretación es tan potente que penetra al espectador, sintiendo el amor incondicional a su pareja, sumado por el despojo de la sociedad y la impotencia ante un mundo ciego por la ignorancia. Sin ella esta película no hubiese impactado de la forma que lo ha hecho, una actriz muy completa tanto por su maestría en la interpretación como por los fabulosos dotes de canto, Daniela promete mucho en el mundo del espectáculo.

Al finalizar la película tuve la surte de conocer la Madre del Director Sebastian Leilo, Valeria una mujer fabulosa, hermosa, elegante y orgullosa del talento de sus hijo, encantadora y feliz me dedico un momento a cual le estoy muy agradecida, Igor padre de Daniela se ve muy joven y jovial con gran desplante se encargo que muchos de los que fueron a ver la película se sintieran muy a gusto, incluyendo me a mi, a quien derrocho simpatía, sus ojos estaban llenos de ternura al ver lo lejos que ha llegado su hija una artista con un futuro prometedor, creo sin duda que los padres son nuestros mayores fans, nuestro mayor apoyo y sin su amor incondicional seria imposible tener la fuerza y la certeza para embarcare en cual quier prueba que nos da la vida.
