Adulthood la sobresa de TIFF 2025

Prime Video: Adulthood

por Carol Bryan

Adulthood is a darkly humorous look at the secrets hidden behind closed suburban doors. When siblings Noah (Josh Gad) and Megan (Kaya Scodelario) return to their childhood home after their mother suffers a stroke, they make a shocking discovery: the skeleton of a long-missing neighbor, hidden inside the basement walls.

With their father gone and their mother unable to speak, the pair decide to handle the matter themselves — and every attempt to fix the situation only makes it worse. Their plan to quietly dispose of the body draws in a manipulative former babysitter (Billie Lourd) and a scheming cousin (Anthony Carrigan), turning a family crisis into a chaotic chain of bad decisions.

Directed by Alex Winter, the film blends grim humor with sharp social commentary. Through surreal editing and stark cinematography, it contrasts the peaceful look of suburbia with the dark truths its residents try to bury.

Favorite part:

What makes the story work so well is how likable Noah and Megan are at the start. Their care for their family feels sincere, which makes their growing spiral into poor choices even more compelling — and leaves the audience wondering just how far they will go.

What worked / what didn’t:

The film succeeds on every level, balancing comedy and tragedy in a way that feels both entertaining and thought-provoking.

Recommendation:

If you enjoy stories where every choice leads to more chaos, and where humor and tragedy constantly overlap, this film is for you. It offers a fascinating look at human behavior and the consequences of avoiding responsibility.

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐½ (4.5/5)
