Movie Review

A knockout film, powerful and full of energy. One of those jaw-dropping biographical films story about Tonya Harding, an American skater who conquers glory and sporting success, for being the first skater to perform a triple axel jump, in the United States. However, her worldwide fame becomes due to the scandal and the accusations of complicity in the attack on her competitor the skater Nancy Kerrigan.This film goes beyond of a biographical fact about Tonya’s life. The stories are told by the people who had more influence into her life, among of them are her mother, her husband, the coach, a bodyguard and the press, each one of them has its version that how Tonya’s career was affected.

This movie shows us a more human side of Tonya, where we can see her suffering since the time her father sadly abandoned her as a result of divorce.
Her mother will sacrifice her entire life, working more than two jobs to support her daughter and also pay for skating lessons. Something that she always reminds her, demanding enormous physical efforts from her daughter. Tonya will suffer constant physical and moral abuse by her relentless mother played by (Allison Janney) who won a Golden Globe and an Oscar for her performance; Tonya tired by her mother’s mistreatment, runs away from home, finding no other solution than getting married.However, her husband will be her worst nightmare, causing her a stormy life, with physically and psychologically abusing. These terrible misadventures will not be enough to appease the character of Tonya who will show off in this film how to overcome in life.

Moral of the Movie

I can not say this is a happy movie. Nevertheless, we do found amusing and hilarious scenes. The film is about the story of a strong woman who crosses for strangling periods of her life and will show us, how to become the best version of us even when everything goes against you.
Tonya is a young woman who has financial struggles to support her demanding career; she is also being affected by the disapproval of the judges due to her social status. Even so, she will go ahead conquering the world, with her constant sporting effort, dedication and talent.
In this film, we learn the importance of understanding the people who surround our world, as some individuals can lead you to our success, on the other hand, can end your career. Dreams can come true, and you can touch the sky, but if you do not make the right decisions in life, you can lose everything. I am just telling you the tip of the iceberg; as the film will become very powerful, leaving a great message that you have to discover.

The performance of Margot Robbie and Allison Janney

Margot Robbie is terrific in her role as Tonya, she goes beyond the performance, as she spent more than five months training to emulate a skater. She was nominated, for an Oscar as best actress; she plays a memorable role in this film. Allison Janney is the hated mother, the film begins with the song «Devil Woman,» to emphasise her interpretation as the ruthless mother, implacable, abusing her daughter physically and psychologically, this role will make the actress achieve most desire awards, an Oscar of the academy.

Synopsis

In 1991, talented figure skater Tonya Harding becomes the first American woman to complete a triple axel during a competition. In 1994, her world comes crashing down when her ex-husband conspires to injure Nancy Kerrigan, a fellow Olympic hopeful, in a poorly conceived attack that forces the young woman to withdraw from the national championship. Harding’s life and legacy instantly become tarnished as she’s forever associated with one of the most infamous scandals in sports history.

About Tonya Harding

A native of Portland, Oregon, Harding was raised primarily by her mother, who enrolled her in ice skating lessons beginning at age four. Harding would spend much of her early life training, eventually dropping out of high school to devote her time to the sport. After climbing the ranks in the U.S. Figure Skating Championships between 1986 and 1989, Harding won the 1989 Skate America competition. She was the 1991 and 1994 U.S. champion before being stripped of her 1994 title, and 1991 World silver medalist. In 1991, she earned distinction as being the first American woman to successfully land a triple axel in competition, and only the second woman to ever do so in history (behind Midori Ito). She is also a two-time Olympian and a two-time Skate America Champion. In January 1994, Harding became embroiled in controversy when her ex-husband, Jeff Gillooly, orchestrated an attack on fellow US Olympian Nancy Kerrigan. After the 1994 Games had ended, Harding ultimately pleaded guilty to hindering the prosecution and was banned for life from the U.S. Figure Skating Association as a result. The criminal investigation and Harding’s banning from the sport were the subjects of intense media scrutiny, and it has been referred to as one of the biggest scandals in American sports history.

Comentario de la Película

Una película sorprendente, fuerte, potente y llena de energía. Uno de esos film que te asombra contándonos la historia biográfica de Tonya Harding, una patinadora estadounidense que conquista la gloria y el éxito deportivo, por ser la primera patinadora en realizar un salto de triple axel, en los Estados Unidos. Sin embargo aumentara su fama mundial,  por el escándalo y las acusaciones de complicidad por el ataque a su competidora la patinadora Nancy Kerrigan.

Pero la película va mas allá de un hecho biográfico sobre Tonya, la historia se irá contándo a través de los personajes que influenciaron en su vida, entre ellos se encuentran su madre, su marido, la entrenadora, el guardaespaldas y la prensa, cada uno de ellos tiene su propia versión personal de como vio los hechos en la vida de Tonya. La película nos muestra un lado mas humano de Tonya, en la cual se ve tristemente abandonada por su padre producto del divorcio, su madre tendrá dos trabajos para mantener a su hija y poder pagar las clases de patinadora, algo que ella siempre se lo recuerda, exigiendo enormes esfuerzos físicos a su hija, Tonya sufrirá constantes abusos físicos y morales por su implacable madre interpretado por (Allison Janney) quien gano un Globo de Oro y un premio Oscar por su interpretación, Tonya cansada del maltrato de su madre huye de casa, sin otra solución que casándose.

Pero su marido será aun su peor pesadilla, pues le dará una tormentosa vida abusando física y psicológicamente de ella. Estas terribles desventuras no serán suficiente para aplacar el carácter de Tonya quien mostrará en esta película como se debe vencer en la vida.

Moraleja de la película

No puedo decir que esta sea una película alegre, aun cuando si hay escenas con sentido del humor, pero es un film sobre una mujer luchadora que nos demuestra como sacar lo mejor de nosotros, aun cuando todo vaya en nuestra contra. Tonya es una joven que cruza por escasos recursos financieros, desaprobación de los jueces  y rechazo social, aun así saldrá adelante conquistando al mundo por su esfuerzo y talento. En esta película podremos ver, la importancia de saber elegir quien nos rodea, por que esas personas, te pueden llevar al éxito o al final de tu carrera. Los sueños pueden hacerse realidad y tu puedes tocar el cielo, pero si uno no toma las decisiones correctas en la vida puedes perderlo todo. Esto es solo la punta del iceberg, la película es muy potente dejando un gran mensaje que tu tienes que descubrir.

La actuacion de Margot Robbie y Allison Janney

Margot Robbie esta increíble, su rol como Tonya va mas allá de la actuación producto que ella paso mas de cinco meses de entrenamiento para poder emular a una patinadora, nominada al Oscar como mejor actriz ella cumple un papel memorable en esta película, Allison Janney es la odiada madre, la película comienza con la canción «Devil Woman» su interpretación como madre despiadada, e implacable abusando a su hija física y psicológicamente harán que la actriz se lleve los premios mas codiciados de la academia.
