Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is a French science fiction-adventure film written and directed by Luc Besson, and co-produced by Besson and his wife, Virginie Besson-Silla. The film is based on the French science fiction comics series Valérian and Laureline, written by Pierre Christin and illustrated by Jean-Claude Mézières. It stars Dane DeHaan as Valerian and Cara Delevingne as Laureline, with Clive Owen, Rihanna, Ethan Hawke, Herbie Hancock, Kris Wu and Rutger Hauer in supporting roles. Besson independently crowd-sourced and personally funded Valerian and, with a production budget of around $180 million, it is both the most expensive European and independent film ever made.
Movie Review
I was very much looking forward to enjoying this movie on the big screen because this is the typical movie due to special effects you visually want to enjoy in full motion, I was pleased and not disappointed with the result, in fact, I believe I got more than I was expecting. The movie is subtle with elegance dynamic, very easy to follow. I love how to transport the viewer into a fascinate perfect world of harmony where all countries and universe civilisation are united in one spaceship named Alfa the city of the 1000 planet.
As The Fifth Element, this film is very colourful, with perfect special effects, along with the soundtrack, the film created the magic of a surreal world build on the future universe that goes beyond the supernatural. Once again a remarkable French film that leaves a footmark legacy the science fiction space films.
The performance of Cara and Dane DeHaan are harmonious a young and fresh couple who fight the crime achieving justice with truly noble values, Rihana performs a sweet funny character with a spectacular and chameleonic presentation.
The costumes have quite a resemblance to the comic, magnificent visual special effects, recreating the complex universe of the city of a thousand planet, populated by citizens of different races who share their wisdom and culture, populating the universe led by a code of defence and cosmic order.
Moral of the movie
The phrase of the film is «unless you do not make peace with your past, you will not have a future» a pretty psychological concept that indicates that we are prisoners of our fears and insecurities, only accepting our destiny, we can seed a path that will help to create a new better future for our lives and those who are around of us.
Plot
In the 28th century, Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) are a team of special operatives charged with maintaining order throughout the human territories. Under assignment from the Minister of Defense, the two embark on a mission to the astonishing city of Alpha-an ever-expanding metropolis where species from all over the universe have converged over centuries to share knowledge, intelligence and cultures with each other. There is a mystery at the centre of Alpha, a dark force which threatens the peaceful existence of the City of a Thousand Planets, and Valerian and Laureline must race to identify the marauding menace and safeguard not just Alpha, but the future of the universe.
The director Luc Besson
The director, once again creates a masterpiece of cinema, those films that are pure joy for the eyes, Luc had achieved and fulfilled his dream, building his most monumental work, a film that he had waited for many years to be able to be realised on the big screen, demonstrating that cinema is more than just an entertainment is a way to immortalize your dreams for the posterity and future generations.
Luc Besson is a French film director, screenwriter, and producer. He directed or produced the films Subway(1985), The Big Blue (1988), and Nikita (1990). Besson is known for his distinctive filmmaking style and is associated with the movement critics call Cinéma du look. He has been nominated for a César Award for Best Director and Best Picture for his films Léon: The Professional and The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc. He won Best Director and Best French Director for his sci-fi action film The Fifth Element (1997). He wrote and directed the 2014 sci-fi thriller film Lucy.

Valérian and Laureline is a French science fiction comics series, created by writer Pierre Christin and artist Jean-Claude Mézières. First published in Pilote magazine in 1967, the final instalment was published in 2010. All of the Valérian stories have been collected in comic album format, comprising some twenty-one volumes plus a short story collection and an encyclopaedia. Valérian is one of the top five biggest selling Franco-Belgian comics titles of its publisher, Dargaud.
The series focuses on the adventures of the dark-haired Valérian, a spatiotemporal agent, and his redheaded female colleague, Laureline, as they travel the universe through space and time. Valérian is a classical hero, kind, strong and brave who follows the orders of his superiors even if he feels, deep down, that it is the wrong thing to do. On the other hand, his partner Laureline combines her superior intelligence, determination and independence with sex-appeal. Influenced by classic literary science fiction, the series mixes space opera with time travel plots

Comentario de la película
Me gusto mucho la película sin duda son de esas películas que anhelas verlas en la gran pantalla, para disfrutar por completo, el colorido, los efectos especiales, la música y por sobretodo la magia de un mundo surreal que va mas allá de lo sobrenatural. Una vez mas una película francesa que nos impresiona y deja una huella para las películas de espaciales de ciencia ficción.
La actuación de Cara y Dane DeHaan es bastante armoniosa y nos trasporta a una pareja joven y fresca que sumidos en el deber, hacen notar los valores nobles de la verdad y la justicia. Rihana realiza un carácter ingenuo pero muy gracioso con una espectacular y camaleónica presentación.
El vestuario es un fidedigno al cómics, y así como el director sorprendió a muchos en El 5 elemento, no bajo su listón realizando una magnifica obra visual de vestuario maquillaje y efectos especiales, recreando el complejo universo de la ciudad de los mil mundos, poblados por ciudadanos de diversas razas que comparten su sabiduría y cultura sobre poblando el universo conducido por un código de defensa y orden cósmico.
Me encanto el comienzo de la pelicula como se ha reacreado un planeta, donde la vida es perfecta se alcanza la armonia y plenitud de mente, cuerpo y alma.
Morealeja de la película
La frase de la película es «a menos que no hagas las paz con tu pasado, no tendrás un futuro» un concepto bien psicológico que nos indica que somos prisioneros de nuestros miedos e inseguridades y solo aceptando nuestro destino podremos sembrar un nuevo fruto y un crear un nuevo futuro para nuestra vida y los que nos rodean.

El director una vez más crea una obra maestra del cine, una de esas películas que son un ritual para los ojos, Luc cumple su sueño, construyendo su obra más monumental, un film que él espero por muchos años poder verlo en la gran pantalla, demostrando que el cine es más que un pasatiempo sin no una forma de inmortalizar un sueño para la posteridad y las generaciones futuras.
El director francés además es guionista, escritor y productor. Entre sus obras se destacan El gran azul, Nikita, Léon, El quinto elemento, Arthur y los Minimoys, The Transporter, Lucy y Valerian y la ciudad de los mil planetas. Ha ganado numerosos premios franceses e internacionales de cine.
Sinopsis
Valerian (Dane DeHaan) y Laureline (Cara Delevingne) son dos agentes especiales que se ocupan de mantener el orden en todo el universo. Su relación no es lo que se dice romántica, aunque Valerian, un seductor con un amplio historial de conquistas a sus espaldas, busca algo más que una relación profesional con su compañera y por eso persigue abiertamente a Laureline con constantes proposiciones, que ella, de carácter más tradicional, rechaza una y otra vez.
El comandante Arün Filitt (Clive Owen) les envía a cumplir una importante misión en la impresionante ciudad intergaláctica de Alpha, una metrópoli en constante crecimiento en la que conviven miles de especies distintas que proceden de todos los rincones del universo. Después de siglos de paz y prosperidad en la que los diecisiete millones de habitantes de Alpha han unido sus talentos, tecnología y recursos por el bien común, una fuerza desconocida quiere poner en grave peligro la localidad y destruirla. El comic
Valérian es una serie de historietas de ciencia ficción creada por el guionista Pierre Christin, el dibujante Jean-Claude Mézières, y la colorista Évelyne Tranlé. Fue publicado por primera vez en el número 420 de la revista Pilote el 9 de noviembre de 1967. Y posteriormente publicado en formato álbum por la editorial Dargaud en 1970. En 2007, con motivo del cuadragésimo aniversario de la fundación de la serie, y con el lanzamiento de La Orden de las Piedras, la serie pasó a denominarse Valérian y Laureline. Esta serie es una de las más antiguas y más conocidos de la historieta franco-belga con más de cuarenta años de existencia.
Originalmente la serie empieza ambientada en el siglo XXVIII, para entonces la humanidad ha descubierto los medios para viajar en el espacio-tiempo y su capital, Galaxity, es el centro del vasto imperio galáctico terrestre. Valerián y su compañera Laureline son agentes del «Servicie Spatio-Temporel» (Servicio Espacio-Temporal), encargado de neutralizar las posibles amenazas contra la Tierra y evitar las paradojas temporales. Sin embargo, desde la desaparición del imperio Galaxity en Los rayos de Hypsis, se convierten en un par de aventureros que ofrecen sus servicios a cualquiera que se los pueda permitir mientras buscan su hogar perdido.
